The Big Freeze!

Like much of the country Gorsley has had its heaviest falls of snow since 1981. The first taste of winter came before Christmas with a covering of snow and temperatures below freezing. The unusually heavy falls started on Tuesday night, 5th January and continued into Wednesday 6th.

Freezing temperatures over the following several days meant that much of the lying snow remained. Although the main road through Gorsley gradually improved many of the lanes and by roads were still covered with compacted snow.

More heavy snow began to fall on Tuesday 12th January making the roads treacherous again. Many vehicles were unable to make it up the steep hill towards Gorsley Church and the B4221 was closed for a period.

Many thanks to Yvonne Kings for these great pictures of Gorsley School and the roads around it.

If you have any photos of the snow in Gorsley please email them to geoff@gorsley.com and I will put them on this site.
