Welcome to the New Gorsley village web site.
To the hundreds of people that pass through it every day this small village is little more than an inconvenient speed restriction, as they rush to and from the M50 motorway. To the community of some 360 households that have made their home here, it's much more than just a small village.
Situated in the heart of the countryside of rural South Herefordshire and straddling the border with Gloucestershire, Gorsley is surrounded by woodland and overlooked by Linton Ridge and May Hill with the Malvern Hills and the Cotswolds visible in all but the worst weather. A labyrinth of lanes and paths connect a disparate collection of cottages, houses and small holdings, spanning two Counties and with two Parish Councils.
Derived from the old english word Gorstleye meaning "Gorse field", and with a somewhat dubious early history, Gorsley has become a thriving and picturesque village with an interesting and sometimes surprising past.
